Donald J. "Pappy Don" Hammersla, Sr., 77, of Boonsboro, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on Wednesday, January 26, 2011 at the Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown, Maryland.
Born on July 18, 1933, he was the son of the late Russell Edward and Helen (Daley) Hammersla. His wife, Sylvia Jean (Marshall) Hammersla preceded him in death in 1994.
Mr. Hammersla was a veteran of the United States Airforce serving during the Korean War.
He was a member of the Teamsters Local 992 in Hagerstown where we worked as a Tractor Trailer Driver.
Pappy Don will be best remembered for his avid love of fishing and camping.
He is survived by his son, Donald J. and his wife Sherry Hammersla, Jr. of Sharpsburg, Maryland; his brother, Jack Hammersla of Hagerstown; his two granddaughters Erin C. and her husband Travis Harrell, and Jessi L. and her husband Josh Kretzer, all of Sharpsburg; and his two great-grandchildren, Emma Grace and Elizabeth Jean Harrell. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, Donald was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at Samples Manor Church of God on Harpers Ferry Road in Sharpsburg. Burial will follow at the Samples Manor Cemetery. Military Honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10, Boonsboro.
The family will recieve friends from 6 - 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 29, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, as well as one hour prior to the service at the church on Sunday.
