Donald Guyer

January 12, 1928 — June 26, 2011

Donald A. Guyer, 83, of Keedysville, Maryland, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, June 26, 2011 at the Washington Hospital Center in Washington, D.C.

Born on January 12, 1928, in Keedysville, he was the son of the late Walter Edward and Anna May (Thomas) Guyer.

Donald was a veteran of World War II, serving in the United States Army.

He retired after 38 years from the Western Maryland Railroad where he worked as an electrician.

Donald was a member of First Christian Church in Boonsboro, a founding member and past Treasurer of the McClellan Gun Club in Keedysville, a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10 in Boonsboro, and the Western Maryland Old Timer's Railroad Club.

He loved hunting and was an avid sportsman and Civil War buff.  In his retirement, Donald enjoyed playing cards with his gun club cronies.

Donald is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy L. (Long) Guyer; his two daughters, Donna G. and her husband Barry Levey of Keedysville and Linda K. and her husband Ray Jenkins of Shepherdstown, West Virginia; three grandchildren, Scott Smith of Keedysville, Deena Holder of Sharpsburg, Maryland, and Devin Poorman of Smithsburg, Maryland; six great-grandchildren, Hannah Smith, Madisen Fedorko, Patrick Fedorko, Adrienne Holder, Jonah Poorman, and Maura Holder. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

A funeral ceremony will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 1, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, Maryland. The Rev. Dean M. Miller will officiate.  Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville.  Military Honors will be rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post #10.

Friends are invited to visit beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, June 30, 2011 at the funeral home where the family will be present to receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m.
