Donald K. Corun, 75, of Jefferson, Maryland, passed away in the early morning hours of January 12, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital, after over 7½ years of fighting multiple myeloma. He was born on May 7, 1949, to the late Dorsey K. and Louise Gruden Corun. He was the loving husband of Susan Hemp Corun for 49 years. They would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on February 15th.
Donnie graduated from Brunswick High School in 1967. He was the first student from Frederick County to attend the General Motors Training School in Fairfax, Virginia while in high school.
Donnie started his career after high school as a mechanic at Ideal Buick in downtown Frederick from 1967-1979. In November 1979, he went to work as a mechanic at Model Garage in Middletown, Maryland. In 1981, was promoted to Service Manager where he worked until 2002. From 2004 until the time of his death Donnie worked at Hemp’s Meats in Jefferson, Maryland.
Donnie was a life and charter member of the Jefferson Volunteer Fire Company. In his over 58 years of service to the fire company, he held numerous positions including Lieutenant, Captain, Assistant Treasurer and Director. He held the office of Director for a total of 38 years, including being re-elected for the year 2025. He was also a member of the Jefferson United Church of Christ.
He enjoyed watching westerns, the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Capitals and Baltimore Orioles, all while relaxing in his recliner.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Ashley Crum and husband CJ, also of Jefferson. He was the proud Granddaddy to Brice Crum and step grandchildren Justin and Taylor Crum. Donnie is also survived by his brother, Daniel Corun, Sr. and his former wife, Kay, both of Idaho Falls, Idaho; brother-in-laws, Billy Hemp (Sandra) and Gary Hemp (Robin), all from Jefferson, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their extended families. Donnie will also be fondly and lovingly remembered by Nancy and Kenny “Turtle” Royal and Ashley’s best friend, Lisa Partyka. He will also be greatly missed by his dog and loyal companion, Molly.
He was predeceased by his in-laws, Bill and Marie Hemp; sisters, Roberta Coulter (Kenneth) and Barbara Leiby (Donald) and brother, James Booker.
Susan and Ashley would like to thank the providers and staff at the James M. Stockman Cancer Institute and the nurses on 2C at Frederick Health Hospital for their compassion and kindness during Donnie’s many visits.
The family will receive friends from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm on Thursday, January 16, 2025, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A. (Brunswick), 1100 North Maple Avenue in Brunswick, MD.
A celebration of Donnie's life journey will take place at 11 am on Friday, January 17, 2025, at Jefferson United Church of Christ, 3837 Jefferson Pike in Jefferson, MD. Interment will be at Jefferson Reformed Cemetery in Jefferson, MD.
Donnie was not a fan of dressing up, therefore, suits and ties are not necessary.
