Donald Clipp Sr.

January 30, 1942 — August 9, 2008

Donald Leroy "Hoppy" Clipp Sr., age 66, of Hardwood Lane, Keedysville, MD, and formerly of Walkersville and Adamstown, MD, died Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at his home.


Born Jan. 30, 1942 in Keedysville, Donald was a son of the late Richard Edward Clipp and Frances Irene Nally Clipp Jennings, and step son of Ann Clipp of Frederick and the late O'Byrne Jennings.


He was a 1959 graduate of Boonsboro High School.


Donald was formerly employed at J. Edward Magaha in Ranson, WV, and retired after 30 years from Eastalco Aluminum Co. in Buckeystown, MD.  After retiring, he worked at his son's family business, C&O Tile in Williamsport, MD.


Donald was a member of Carroll Manor Lions Club and West Virginia Emmaus Community.  He was a Civil War living historian and portrayed John Mosby.  He enjoyed the outdoors especially gardening, fishing, mushroom hunting and camping at Chincoteague.


Donald was a former member of Buckeystown United Methodist church where he had been a trustee and member of the Prayer Group and Apple Dumpling Gang.  He currently was a member of Salem United Methodist Church in Keedysville where he was a trustee.


Donald is survived by his wife, Janice Lorraine Alger Clipp, whom he married Nov. 5, 1960; six children, Kathy C. Osborn, husband Patrick and children James and Megan of Pennsylvania; Karen C. Cowden, children Crystal and Rebecca and special friend Tommy Wilson of Frederick; Donald L. Clipp Jr., wife Cindy and children Daniel, Katie, Shane and Brandon of Keedysville; Douglas L. Clipp, wife JeNeen and children Justin, Jessica and Joseph of Chambersburg, PA; David L. Clipp, wife Rose and children Dillon and Dustin of Monrovia, MD; and Kelly C. Sines, fiancé Andy Wasko and children Bridgette, Derek and Bridget of Brunswick; one brother, James Jennings of Leetown, WV; two sisters, Patty Alger and husband Clark of Frederick and Janine Clipp of Hagerstown; mother-in-law Evelyn Alger of Boonsboro; two great-grandchildren Sadie and Anabelle; and other family members and close friends, though all very special, too numerous to mention.


He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward L. Clipp Sr. and father-in-law, Sullivan Alger Sr.


Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church.  The Revs. Patricia S. Watson and Linda Healy will officiate.  Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery in Keedysville.


The family will receive friends Tuesday from 1 to 3 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home in Boonsboro.
