Donald Cecil

May 7, 1930 — January 19, 2015

Mr. Donald Richard Cecil, 84, of Frederick, MD., died Monday, January 19, 2015 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.  He was the husband of, his beloved wife,  Frances Montgomery Cecil, his wife of 60 years.

He was born May 7, 1930  in Frederick, the son of the late Alvie and Nellie H. Cecil.

Donald was employed for 8 years by Ebert Ice Cream Company and retired after 28 years from Coca Cola.  After retiring from Coca Cola he worked as a courier for the Frederick County National Bank,  Shockley Honda and for Country Meadows Retirement Home. He served his country in the US Army during the Korean War from 1951-1953 and was a member of the American Legion Post #11.  Donald was an active member of the Glade United Church of Christ, and served as treasurer of the Building Fund.  He was also a member of the Glade Valley Grange, the Frederick County Pomona Grange, the State and National Granges, the Frederick County Farm Bureau, and the Frederick County Farm Museum.  He especially liked working the Dairy bar at the Frederick County Fair.  Donald loved family gatherings and vacations at the beach.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his sister Jane Cecil Crum; sisters-in-law Roxie (John) Underwood, Charlotte Montgomery and brother-in-law David R. Montgomery.  Many nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews also survive.  He was preceded in death by his son Bradley W. Cecil, sisters Urith Fogle, brother Alvie Cecil, Jr., and Louise Blumenauer and brother-in-laws James O. Montgomery and John W. Montgomery.

The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Wednesday, January 21, from 6-8:00 pm.  Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 22, at 11:00 am from the Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Avenue, Walkersville, MD with Rev. Philip Neal Curran officiating.  Friends may visit 1 hour prior to funeral service.
Interment Resthaven Memorial Gardens.

The family requests memorials be made to the Leukemia  & Lymphoma Society, 100 Painters Mill Rd., Owings Mill, MD  21117 or to Glade United Church of Christ, Building Fund at the above address.
