Donald Cavender

Donald Clifford Cavender, 88, of Sharpsburg, Maryland passed from this life on Tuesday, April 14, 2015, in the presence of his daughter, Linda, at Charlotte's Home in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Born on February 28, 1927 in Lantz, Maryland, he was the son of the late Charles Elmer and Bertha Camilla (Messersmith) Cavender. He is preceded in death by his wife of 57 years, Ruth "Tiny" L. (Gay) Cavender.
Donald was a veteran of the United States Navy, serving as a gunner on the U.S.S. Atlanta during World War II.
After retiring from Fairchild Aircraft in Hagerstown, he owned and operated Cavender's Pump Service.
He had been a member of the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 in Boonsboro.
Donald was an avid hunter and fisherman, always enjoying the opportunity to spend time outdoors.
He is survived by his daughter, Linda M. Anders, and her husband, Stephen, of Keedysville, Maryland; two sisters, Faye Bowers and her husband, Virgil, and Mary Alice Bricker, all of Williamsport, Maryland; two grandchildren, Kathleen G. Musser and her husband, Robert, of Martinsburg, West Virginia, and S. Chris Anders and his wife, Gina, of Lovettsville, Virginia; five great-grandchildren, Brandon Anders and his fiancé, Scarlet Filpo, Elizabeth Anders, Aiden Musser, Zephan Musser, and Caitlin Musser; and one great-great granddaughter, Annalise Anders. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and his wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Ruth Moore and Louise Giffin; and his five brothers, Charles, Kenneth, Paul, Floyd and Wilfred Cavender.
A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 18, 2015, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Ernest E. Witmer will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies with military honors rendered by the Clopper-Michael American Legion Post 10 from Boonsboro will follow at Samples Manor Cemetery in Sharpsburg.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2015, at the funeral home.
