Don D. Roose

Our beloved Don D. Roose, 86, of Germantown, Maryland, passed from this life on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at Holy Cross Germantown Hospital. He was the loving husband of Rosario Roose for nearly 50 years, and the father of five sons - Stephan, Daniel, Mateo, Joaquin and David
 
Born on May 22, 1937, in South Bend, Indiana, he was the son of the late H. Louis Roose and Margaret (Dubail) Roose.  

Don grew up in Michigan, graduated from Sexton High School in 1955, attended and graduated from the University of Michigan with a master’s in social work on June 13, 1959. 
 
 Throughout his life, Don lived with his heart-on-his-sleeve, a passion for politics and international affairs, and dedicated his life to helping those in need. He was a social worker for many years and held a wide variety of roles:  he was the Executive Director for Foster Parent’s Plan International, a global non-profit organization (NGO), developed employee assistance services, and spent many years providing social services for the government of Montgomery County, Maryland.  His overseas experience included years of nonprofit work in countries including Bolivia, Colombia, Brazil, El Salvador, and Haiti. 

No matter where he lived or whom he met, he constantly strived to help the vulnerable and the less fortunate and instilled the core values of civic responsibility and giving back to the community. 
 
Don, who was lovingly known as Dad or Papa, was a very special person to many people around him. He made a positive impact on everyone he met and had a great love for and relationship with his family, who all loved him dearly. He will be missed immensely, as words alone cannot describe how much he was loved by everyone. He will always be a shining star in our hearts.
 
In addition to his wife and five sons, Don is also survived by his sisters Janet (Roose) Baumgartner and Judy (Roose) Bornstein, eight grandchildren, and one great-grandchild:

The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm to 12:30 pm on Tuesday, May 28, 2024, at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, with a funeral service to begin at 12:30 p.m.
