Dolores (Lory) T. Barrie, 91, of Mt. Airy, died 16 November, 2017, at Frederick Memorial Hospital. Her strong Christian faith and dedication to her family sustained her over decades with several painful afflictions. The Ten Commandments and the Golden Rule were guides to her life.
She was the wife of Major Raymond L. Barrie, USMC (Ret) with whom she had recently celebrated their 71st anniversary.
Born in 1926 at Boston, MA, she was the daughter of the late Alfred Traverse and Florence Chislett; residing before marriage at Cambridge and Braintree, MA.
Surviving, are their son Gordon Barrie, with grand-children Ian Barrie and Aynslie Barrie, of Mt. Airy, and Christian Gallo (Nicole) of Sunrise, AZ; and son-in-law, Gary Franko of Frederick.
She was predeceased by their daughter Deborah Barrie-Franko and daughter-in-law Merry Lynn (Raley) Barrie.
After graduating from Braintree High School in 1944, until her marriage in 1946, she studied at Eastern Nazarene College, Quincy, MA, enrolled in the chemistry curriculum.
Over the years, she made homes for the family, stateside, in North Carolina, Kansas, Virginia, California; French Morocco to the east and Hawaii to the west.
Before moving to Mt. Airy from Springfield, VA, in 1963, she was for several years an active member and, circa 1960-1962, President of the Crestwood Women’s Club, an affiliate of the international General Federation of Women’s Clubs, dedicated to civic improvement. At Mt. Airy, she was a troop leader of Brownies and Girl Scouts and active in support of her church projects until declining health restricted her activities.
A private graveside service will be scheduled later.
