Dolores Burdner Davis

September 8, 1925 — June 1, 2008


Mrs. Dolores Burdner Davis, 82, of Emmitsburg, died peacefully on Sunday, June 1, 2008 at the Gettysburg Hospital. She was the wife of the late Harold Davis who died in 1989.

Born on September 8, 1925 in Emmitsburg she was the daughter of the late Grace (Favorite) and Robert Burdner. Dolores was also preceded in life by a brother, Joseph Burdner and sisters, Margaret Shryock and Roberta Hankey and infant siblings Sterling, Paul and Mildred.

A member of St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church, Dolores was a retired housekeeper at Mt. St. Mary's College. During her life she participated in the Women's Auxiliary for the Knights of Columbus, and recently enjoyed playing cards and socializing with friends at the Emmitsburg Senior Center.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews; Bonnie Staub and Patty Shryock-Smith both of Taneytown, Diane Kobi of Cape Coral, FL, Robert Hankey of Harrisburg, PA, Donald Hankey of Allentown, PA and Joseph Burdner, Jr. of Long Island, NY; her sister-in-law, Eva Burdner of Long Island, NY. her brother-in-laws, John Shryock of Taneytown and Marlin Hankey of Estero, FL.


Her family would like to also acknowledge Alan Hawkins who was a great friend and neighbor, Alan's daily visits allowed Dolores to stay in her home for many years. They are grateful for the compassionate care she received during her illness at Gettysburg Hospital. Also mentioned would be the Daughters of Charity, especially Sister Mary Bernadette, and the priests at St.Joseph who were very important in Dolores life.

Services: A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, June 3, 2008 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Roman Catholic Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
