Dolores Helen Dreis, 90, passed away on February 23, 2025 in Frederick. She was a devoted wife and mother and always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. Born and raised in Albany, N.Y., she moved to the Washington, D.C. area in 1953 then to Frederick in 1983.
Dolores was preceded in death by her parents, Lawrence A. Schultz II and Amelia A. Schultz, her husband John P. Dreis, son-in-law Christopher K. Mitchell, and grandson Clinton K. Mitchell. She is survived by her brother, Lawrence A. Schultz III (Lynn) of Columbia, Md, son, David G. Dreis (Cheryl) of Chester, Va., and daughter, Laurie A. Mitchell of Vienna, Va., four remaining grandchildren; Ellen Harcum (Nathan), Andrew Dreis (Taylor), Leah Mitchell-Kidd (Kevin), and Rachel Mitchell-Smisko (Daniel); and eight great-grandchildren.
Dolores’ most avid pursuits included raising a family, tenpin bowling and traveling. She endeavored to participate in various aspects of bowling that included active participation, performing administrative duties and coaching junior bowlers. Administrative highlights included secretary of the American Junior Bowling Congress for the Vir-Mar District, and secretary of the Women’s International Bowling Congress Frederick Association. Dolores also served as a delegate at the national level. In 2000, she gained entrance into the Maryland State U.S. Bowling Congress Hall of Fame for meritorious service. She traveled the United States participating in annual tournaments and later for pleasure in Europe.
Dolores’ family expresses gratitude to the staff at Fiddler’s Green of Edenton Frederick for care given to her, especially Tawana and Tina. Tawana bestowed upon Dolores the nickname “Sunshine” as she endeared herself to everyone with her sunny disposition.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 12:00 pm on Friday, March 7, 2025, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. Second Street in Frederick, MD.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens in Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Frederick Health Hospice or the American Kidney Fund.
