Dolores Carney

January 5, 1934 — November 3, 2023

Mount Airy

Dolores Carney, a beloved member of her community and a devoted mother and wife, away on November 3, 2023, at the age of 89. She was born on January 5, 1934, in Queens, New York, to Herbert and Ethel Gaiser. Dolores grew up in a loving family alongside her sister, Ethel Ashby.

Dolores Carney's proudest accomplishment was undoubtedly raising her family. Her devotion to her husband of 68 years, William "Bill" Carney, was unwavering until his passing on July 16, 2023. Dolores leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness that will continue to inspire generations to come.

She is survived by her son, William Carney, and his wife Linda, of Bay Shore, NY; and her son James Carney of Farmingdale, NY; and her daughter, Rosemarie Young, and her husband, Charles, of Mt. Airy, MD. Dolores was also blessed with nine grandchildren and one great-granddaughter who brought immeasurable joy to her life.

After completing her education, Dolores embarked on a career as an office manager at the South East Nassau Guidance Center. For over 20 years, she dedicated herself to her work and made a lasting impact on both her colleagues and the community she served.

Outside of her professional life, Dolores's passion lay in her involvement with St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church in Farmingdale, NY, and St. Thomas More in Lake Ariel, PA. She actively participated in the parish councils of both churches and contributed to various charitable initiatives. Dolores took great pride in organizing a food bank at St. Thomas More to support those in need.

In 1995, Bill retired from his career, followed by Dolores retirement in 1997. They spent the next two decades living happily in Pennsylvania before moving to Mt. Airy, Maryland in 2018 to be closer to their family.

Dolores was known for her loving and kind-hearted nature. Her selfless dedication to her community and family resonated with all who had the pleasure of knowing her. She poured her heart into everything she did and gave generously of herself without hesitation.

Dolores Carney's departure has left an undeniable void in the hearts of those who loved her. She will forever be remembered for the love and kindness she shared with everyone she encountered.

The family will receive friends on December 1st 2-4pm and 7-9pm at McCourt and Trudden Funeral Home at 385 Main St . Farmingdale. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Kilian Roman Catholic Church in Farmingdale, NY on December 2nd at 9:30 am. Interment of cremains will be at Holy Rood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the American Cancer Society.

While Dolores may no longer walk among us, her spirit lives on in the memories she created and the lives she touched. May she find eternal peace as we celebrate a life well-lived and honor the legacy of a remarkable woman who dedicated herself wholeheartedly to others.
