Mrs. Dollie Mae Gray, 81, of Frederick, died Saturday, June 2, 2012 at Glade Valley Center. Twice married, she was predeceased by her husbands, Paul F. Hackey, Sr. on Feb. 18, 1981, and Alfred Gray.
Born June 20, 1930 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Andrew Thomas Simms, Sr., and Mable Viola Lyles Simms.
Mrs. Gray retired in 1986 as a custodian for Frederick County Public Schools. She worked at Green Valley Elementary School and Linganore High School.
She was a member of Sugarloaf Mountain Community Church where she sang in the church choir. She greatly enjoyed attending her church functions. Mrs. Gray loved spending time with her family.
In her younger years, she enjoyed fishing and bowling.
She is survived by her daughter, Barbara Lyles and husband, Robert, of Walkersville; two sons, Paul F. Hackey, Jr. and wife, Patricia, of New Market; and Charles C. Simms and wife, Sheila, of Frederick; nine grandchildren, Leslie Monroe, Paul Hackey, III, Anthony Hackey, Mark Hackey, Travis Lyles, Shanita Lyles, Charles Simms, Jr., Paul Myers, and Charles Roberts; and 12 great-grandchildren. She also is survived by five sisters, Mable Scott, Betty Jean Dorsey, Betty Lou Fowler, Ella Berry and Mary Scott.
In addition to her husbands and parents, she was predeceased by two brothers, Andrew Simms, Jr. and Oscar Simms, and three sisters, Hilda Brown, Ethel Dorsey and Maude Gray.
Funeral services for Mrs. Gray will begin at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 12, 2012 from the chapel of Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. The family will receive friends one hour prior to services. Officiating will be Pastor Joan Hall and Bishop Merle Lyles.
Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Gardens.
