Denton Knill Garst

Denton Knill Garst, 96, of Frederick, Maryland, passed from this life on Monday, January 23, 2023, at his home.  He was the beloved husband of Peggy L. (James) Garst for 69 years. 

Born on May 4, 1926, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of the late John Gilmer and Mae Cordelia Garst. 

Denton was a lifelong dairy farmer.  He was a member of Frederick Church of the Brethren, the Gideon's International, and the Purple Martin Society of Frederick, MD.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Linda Bruchey and husband Charles, Nancy Hawkins and husband Bill, Kenneth Garst and wife Peggy Sue and daughter-in-law Mary Garst all of Frederick; grandchildren, Chad Hawkins and wife Dani, Bradley Hawkins, Brian Hawkins, Lindsey Mclnerney and husband Mitch, Lisa Chakalis and husband Tony, Lucas Garst and Shawn Garst; great-grandchildren, Claire and Jane Hawkins, Blair and Margot McInerney, Branch, Ryder, and Navy Chakalis; one brother, Donald Garst and one sister Virginia Coblentz.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sons, James and Steven; brothers John and Richard Garst and sister Louise Cline.

The family will receive friends from 1-2 pm on Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Frederick Church of the Brethren, 201 Fairview Avenue in Frederick, MD, where a funeral service will take place at 2 pm.  Pastor Kevin King will officiate.  

Interment will be private.
