Dennis Lynn Nalley, 59, of Boonsboro, Maryland, peacefully passed away at his home on Thursday, March 20, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer.
Born on January 4, 1966, in Hagerstown, Maryland, Dennis was the youngest son of the late Edward C. Nalley and Helen (Hull) Nalley. He spent his early years enjoying the simple pleasures of life, including playing basketball, taking road trips with his brother-in-law, and making furniture alongside his older brother, Ronnie. Dennis graduated from Boonsboro High School in 1984, and shortly after, he dedicated his life to public service.
Dennis had a distinguished 32-year career as a federal firefighter and EMT with the Fort Detrick Fire Department, retiring in 2021. He also served as a lifetime member of the First Hose Company in Boonsboro, where his commitment to helping others shone brightly. Dennis was affectionately known as "Huck" within his firefighter family. In recent years, he joined the private sector as the Safety Manager at R.W. Warner, where he continued his legacy of service and care.
On August 28, 2004, Dennis married the love of his life, Mary (Hains) Nalley. Together, they raised four children and created countless cherished memories. Whether traveling, attending sports games, or spending time with their beloved grandchildren and furry companions, Dennis and Mary’s bond was a testament to their love and devotion.
An avid sports fan, Dennis passionately supported the Baltimore Ravens, Washington Capitals, and Baltimore Orioles. He was also a devoted follower of University of Maryland basketball, especially during March Madness. Dennis found joy in cooking, often grilling delicious meals on his Blackstone grill. His infectious sense of humor brought laughter to those around him, and his kindness and selflessness left a lasting impression on his family and friends. He was always quick to lend a helping hand and put others first.
Dennis is survived by his beloved wife, Mary; children, Travis Nalley (Boonsboro, MD), Amber Nalley (Boonsboro, MD), Cortney McNew (Patrick) (New Market, MD), and Nicholas Silvis (Boonsboro, MD); and seven grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Nancy Itnyre (Jerry), Emma Jean Robertson, Edward Nalley (Rosie), Connie Delosier, and Ronald Reeves (Sharon), as well as many nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
He was preceded in death by his brother, James Nalley; and brothers-in-law, Rodney Delosier and Harold Robertson.
A celebration of Dennis’ life will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, 2025, at the Boonsboro Volunteer Fire Department, 5 Saint Paul St., Boonsboro, MD 21713.
