Dennis Charles Johnson

December 23, 1952 — August 4, 2024

Brunswick

Dennis Johnson (aka Pops) peacefully passed away on August 4, 2024 in Brunswick,Maryland. Dennis recently moved from Ardmore, Ok to stay with his daughter and get care for his cancer. Dennis was born on December 23,1952 in Wakefield, Nebraska to Leland and Marjorie Johnson. He was a Vietnam veteran serving in the United States Navy from 1971 to 1975. When his services ended, he was a Petty Officer (E5) . Dennis served on the USS Guide MSO 447 from February 1972 to June 1972 and finished his career on the USS Wabash AOR5 from July 1972 to September 1975. He was a proud Vietnam Veteran and was very proud to serve his country.

Dennis loved woodworking, fixing things (he was an engineer by trade), and he loved to bowl. Later in life he loved riding his Harley with friends and even tried to dabble in a little golf. He loved hanging out with the guys on Thursday night, choosing a new place to hang out, eat and have a couple of beverages and great conversation. One thing about Dennis, if you knew him well, is that he would be there to help you with whatever you need. He was a Mr. Fix it and would always lend a helping hand. There was never a time that he didn’t have his toolbox with him when he would visit friends-it permanently stayed in his truck.

Dennis is proceeded in death by his parents, Marjorie and Leland Johnson, one sister Barbara Hanson and one brother Robert “Bob” Johnson and son-in-law Mitch Mitchell.

He leaves behind his daughter, Angel Mitchell, of Brunswick, MD; his “adopted” son and daughter-in-law, Nick and Jamie Girard and their two children Alexia and Zane of Ardmore; OK; his best friends Don and Rose Engstrom of St. Augustine, Florida: his Brother Harold Johnson of Cedar Creek, Nebraska and several nieces and nephews.

Dad did not want a service or a celebration of life, so there will be no services.

We want to extend our deepest heartfelt gratitude to Frederick Health Hospice for assisting us with dad’s transition. They were absolutely incredible making sure our needs were met, as well as my father’s and making his comfortable during his transition.

In lieu of flowers or plants, please consider making a memorial donation in Dad’s name to Frederick Health Hospice in Frederick, Maryland.
