Mr. Dennis Lee Cooper, 94 of Knoxville, Maryland left this world on March 3, 2011 to go home to be with the Lord while at the Kline Hospice House. He was born at home in Knoxville on November 19, 1916, and was the son of the late Lester Irvin and Della Pearl Cooper.
He was a loving and devoted husband and father. He was a veteran of WWII and served in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. He received the Army Occupation Medal (Germany), the World War II Victory Ribbon and the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign War, American Legion, Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge 1582 and the Eagles Club.
He worked as a carpenter for most of his life and later retired from Frederick County Transportation in 1983.
He loved music, dancing and playing guitar, as well as good conversation and spending time with his granddaughters.
Surviving is his only daughter Crystal L. Cooper-Loss and her husband Michael Loss and their daughters Kylee, Sarah and Tori of Knoxville, Maryland. He has 9 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife of 72 years Mary L. Cooper, sons Gary L. Cooper of Brunswick, Maryland and Gerald M. Cooper of Harpers Ferry, West Virginia brothers Levin, Raymond and Kenneth and sisters Vada Willingham and Lovealine Phillips.
Friends may call from 2:00-4:00 or 7:00-9:00 pm on Sunday, March 6 th , 2011, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 Maple Avenue, Brunswick, Maryland 21716. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home on Monday, March 7 th , 2011 at 2:30 pm with Pastor Lovell Wilson officiating. Private interment for family and close friends will follow at the Brownsville Heights Cemetery, Brownsville, Maryland.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice at 605 West Church Street, Frederick, Maryland 21701 or to Partners in Care at 65 Ritchie Highway, Pasadena, Maryland 21122. On contributions made to Partners in Care, please place his name and the town “Frederick” with contribution so that the funds will go to the Frederick branch.
