Delores Detrick

Mrs. Delores P. Detrick, 90, of Walkersville, died peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2014 at Glade Valley Nursing and Rehab Center. She was the loving wife of the late Clyde L. Detrick, who predeceased her on November 6, 1976.

Born December 8, 1923 in Melbourne, Iowa, she was the only child to the late Carl and Mary O'Brecht Krupp.

She was valedictorian for the Class of 1940, Melbourne High School. During WWII, she supported the war effort by becoming a factory worker. Upon her marriage to Clyde, she became a wife and mother.

Mrs. Detrick was an animal lover and had a special fondness for her pet cats and dogs. She was an avid reader of the Washington Post and enjoyed bird watching. Most importantly, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

She is survived by her son, Jeffrey G. Detrick and wife, Pam, of Olive Branch, MS; daughter, Carla Hellmuth and husband, Robert, of Walkersville; four grandchildren, Heidi Hellmuth, Hannah Hellmuth, Allen J. Detrick, and Amy J. Detrick; a sister-in-law, Vernice Detrick of Marshalltown, IA; and daughter-in-law, Jackie Detrick of Germantown.

She was predeceased by her son, Douglas L. Detrick on September 26, 2000.

A memorial service will begin at 2 p.m. on Sunday, October 12, 2014 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Myersville with Pastor David Howell officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN  38105.
