D. Elaine Whipp

November 18, 1934 — September 10, 2008

Dorothy Elaine Whipp, age 73, of Boonsboro, left this earth to be with the Lord on Wednesday, Sept. 10, 2008, at Washington County Hospital.

Born Nov. 18, 1934 in Brownsville, MD, she was the daughter of the late Ralph Henry and Virginia Rebecca Iselin Crowl.

Elaine was preceded in death by two husbands, William Troy McKnight and Merle Franklin Whipp Sr.

During the 1950s & 1960s she was the owner of The Valley Restaurant in Boonsboro and two gas stations in Washington County. Elaine retired in 1989 from Sears, Roebuck & Co. after 22 years. Afterward, she was the owner of Caring Hands Connection, Inc. before her final retirement in 2001.

Elaine was a member of Brownsville Church of the Brethren.

She had been active in the Boy Scouts, Boonsboro Athletic Boosters, Boonsboro Band Boosters and was a member of Morris-Frock American Legion Post 42 Ladies Auxiliary in Hagerstown. Elaine was an avid gardener, painter and cook.

Elaine is survived by two daughters, Laura A. McKnight of Hagerstown, and Dawn R. Lowery and husband Wayne of Boonsboro; one son, R. Troy McKnight and wife Marcia of Williamsport; stepson Merle F. Whipp Jr. and wife Bonnie of Keedysville; grandchildren, Jennifer A. Logsdon, Bethany S. McKnight, Kristin M. Hutchinson, Carrie A. McKnight, Cristina D. McKnight, Steven K. McKnight and Ryan J. McKnight; great-grandchildren, Timothy R. McKnight Jr. and Madilyn K. Hooper; step grandchildren, Jade R. Whipp, John A. Griffith, C. Blair Whipp, Gunner F. Whipp, Evan M. Lowery and Shane D. Lowery; aunts, uncles and cousins.

She was preceded in death by a son, Glenn W. McKnight; one step daughter Kimberly Whipp Bockstanz; and one grandson, Timothy R. McKnight.

Funeral services will be held 10:30 A.M. Saturday at Brownsville Church of the Brethren. The Rev. Alan Smith will officiate. Burial will be in Brownsville Heights Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Friday from 2 to 4 P.M. and 6 to 8 P.M. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, PA, in Boonsboro.
