Deborah Heagen

December 5, 1962 — March 28, 2020

Deborah “Debbie” Kneen Heagen, 57, of Frederick, passed away on March 28th 2020 from ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease). Debbie was born December 5th, 1962 in Plainfield, New Jersey to Phillip and Elizabeth Kneen. In middle school Debbie moved to Melbourne, Australia for her father’s work. They stayed for four memorable years, before moving back to the United States to settle in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan where Debbie completed her high school senior year at Cranbrook Kingswood School for Girls. Debbie then graduated from American University with a BA in International Studies. After graduation, Debbie stayed in the Washington D.C. area and entered the hospitality industry working at the Wyndham and later the Ritz Carlton.

Debbie later transitioned from the hotel industry into internet marketing working first for E-Site Marketing as Customer Client Executive and later as the Operations Manager for Sabre Hospitality Solutions where she worked until her retirement in 2017. Debbie married Douglas Heagen in 1990 and spent most of their 30 years raising their family together in the Bethesda area.

There was nothing more important to Debbie than her family and friends. Debbie is survived by her husband Doug, her sons Chris and Jack Heagen, her sister Jennie Schneider, nephews Ben and Matt Schneider, and aunts and uncles Kay and Tom Osborn, Roberta and Bob Zoller, and Betty Kneen. Debbie supported many organizations in her life, including volunteering at the Concession stands at our local High School as well as Make a Wish, and the House with a Heart pet sanctuary. Debbie also enjoyed spending time in her garden and exploring new places. Traveling was always one of her greatest pleasures.

Debbie was always upbeat and high energy, and she always looked great wherever she went.  That was important to her. She had such a spirit and zest for life. She touched everyone who knew her. She was truly one-of-a-kind.

We all need to live as Debbie lived and remember it’s not the years in a life that count but the life one lives in their years.

A service will be scheduled at a later date.  Debbie requested that rather than flowers donations be made to Frederick Health Hospice, 516 Trail Avenue PO Box 1799, Frederick, Maryland, 21702.
