Deanna Marie Brown, wife of C. Robert “Bob” Brown, Sr., of Mt. Airy, Maryland, passed away at Dove Hospice House on September 22, 2023, after a recent diagnosis of pancreatic cancer.
Born on March 7, 1946, she was the only child of the late Oliver Holmes and Margie Mae Whipp.
Surviving, in addition to her husband of over 61 years, are three children: a daughter, Robyn Marie Henderson and her husband Scott of Mt. Airy; a son, Charles “Chase” R. Brown, Jr. and his wife Jennifer of Trimble, MO; and daughter, Julie DeAnn Tongier and her husband Tim of Frederick. Seven grandchildren: Lisa Lopez and husband Jair of Allen Park, MI; Sarah Thorpe and husband Matt of Mechanicsville, VA; Scotty Brown of Tacoma, WA; Brittany McKerchie and husband Tyler of St. Ignace, MI; Ryan Noon and fiancée Katie of Chester, VA; Braden Brown and Kaylee Brown of Trimble, MO; six great-grandchildren: Willow, Savannah, River, Jackson, Sofia and Thorn; a very special Aunt Joicey Thew of Manchester Center, Vermont and several cousins.
As an EMT in the 1970s, Deanna was involved with the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Department along with her husband, Bob. She studied Nursing at Catonsville Community College and became a Registered Nurse in 1982.
Deanna was a devoted Christian and spoke the name of Jesus to most people she would meet. Her love for the Lord seemed to steadily grow through the years and wildly through her last days. She was vocally singing of God’s goodness after being transferred from Carroll Hospital to Dove House in Westminster. Her parents raised her in the Church of the Nazarene. In the 1980s, Deanna, along with her Uncle John Thew, traveled to the Philippines on a ‘Work & Witness’ Mission trip. Most recently, her church home has been Damascus Road Community Church.
Music was a constant in the Brown house. Deanna enjoyed singing alto and playing the accordion. Her love for music and musicians ran the full genre spectrum. Dinner around the table was an everyday occurrence. The dedication that Deanna poured into learning her way around the kitchen was one of the ways she loved her family. She found joy in traveling the lower 48 with her husband in their RV, snowbirding in Florida, decorating cakes, sewing, quilting, playing games on her tablet, and snuggling with her chihuahua, Dottie.
The family will receive friends beginning at 1 p.m. on Thursday, September 28 with a service following at 2 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. A funeral procession will then travel to Providence Cemetery, 3716 Kemptown Church Rd., Monrovia, for a graveside service with Pastor Michelle Rader and Andy Knight, Director of Worship at Damascus Road Community Church officiating. Pallbearers are Chase Brown, Braden Brown, Scotty Brown, Jair Lopez, Tyler McKerchie, Scotty Brown, and Matt Keady.
