David Lynn Van Gosen

Mr. David Lynn Van Gosen, 73, of Mt. Airy, died on Tuesday, October 7, 2008, at the Kline Hospice House, Mt. Airy. He was the husband of Carole Van Gosen, his wife of 49 years.

Born on January 20, 1935, he was the son of the late David N. and Ethel Van Gosen Magruder. Mr. Van Gosen was a graduate of Allegany High School in Cumberland, earned his B.S. at Frostburg University and a Master of Arts from Michigan State University.

He served in the U.S. Army.

David was employed by the Carroll County Board of Education for 34 years; first teaching at Mt. Airy High School, next the head of the Biology and Science Dept. at South Carroll High School, and then as Vice Principle at Mt. Airy Middle School for 24 years, until his retirement in 1993.

David was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, the Mt Airy Kiwanis Club, coached Little League and enjoyed gardening.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 3 sons: Bradley Van Gosen and wife Nancy of Highland Park, CO, Danny Van Gosen and fiance Tricia Vaden of Keedysville and Luke Van Gosen and wife Linda of Plano, TX ; 3 grandchildren: Derek, Ethan and Brandon Van Gosen; a brother, Donald Magruder and wife Sharon of Cumberland, a sister, Virginia Magruder of Hagerstown and a sister-in-law, Janie Hutcherson of Cumberland.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Friday, October 10, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy.

Services: A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, October 11, at Calvary United Methodist Church, 403 S. Main St., Mt. Airy with Rev. Dennis Yocum officiating.

A private interment will take place Pine Grove Cemetery, Mt. Airy.
