David Witmer

David Witmer, 81, of Boonsboro, Maryland, passed from this life on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 at his home in Boonsboro, Maryland.

Born on November 30, 1942, in Boonsboro, Maryland, he was the son of the late Howard David Witmer and Lavina Lucy Witmer (Faulders).

He was a 1960 graduate of Boonsboro High School. 

Dave proudly served in the U.S. Army.  

He retired from Moller Pipe Organ.  

He was a lifetime member of the Boonsboro American Legion Clopper-Michael Post 10 where he held several offices over the years, the Williamsport Red Men Lodge 84, and the Amvets Post 10 in Hagerstown, MD.  

Dave loved to carry on and tell a good joke.  He made friends everywhere he went and loved children and animals, especially Sweatpea, his constant companion. He loved his t-shirts and collected hundreds from everywhere he visited.   

He is survived by his loving wife, Deborah Hanes Witmer, children Christine Setiawan and husband Rudy, Lori Moy and husband Chuck, and Heath Burker and wife Shannon; grandchildren Jenna Pepple (Cody), Bethany Pepple (Bruce), Grace Burker, Jackson Burker, and Caleb Setiawan; and three great-grandchildren.  He is also survived by one brother, Sherwood Witmer and wife Pat, and two nieces, Rayetta Cunningham and husband Kenny and Barb Bonebrake and husband Bob.  

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister Naomi Butler (Phil), brother Ray Witmer, and first wife Rayetta Witmer.

The family will receive friends from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home.  A graveside service will be held at 12:15 pm on Tuesday, March 5, 2024 at Boonsboro Cemetery.

The family requests that those attending services wear whatever they would be most comfortable in.
