David Thomas

Mr. David I. Thomas, 60, of Hagerstown, died on Friday September 24, 2010 at WashingtonCountyHospital. He was the husband, true soul mate, and lifelong friend of Toni Rae Baker Thomas.

Born on February 3, 1950 in Frederick, he was the son of the late John William and Fannie Virginia Stockman Thomas.
David loved his country and proudly served in the U. S. Navy from 1968-1972, during the Vietnam Era. He was an avid baseball fan and enjoyed collecting baseball cards and paraphernalia throughout his life. He played baseball in Frederick Little League, Babe Ruth League and at both Frederick and ThomasJohnsonHigh Schools. David, known to many as “Train”, was a pitcher for the Miller Beer Softball Team, out of Frederick. This team won many league titles, three state championships and a national championship during the 1980s. He also helped win seven league titles with FCOB in his earlier years. David also enjoyed bowling, having bowled in the Monocacy “B” League at Village Lanes for approximately 20 years. He was a life-long member of Frederick Church of the Brethren.
David had been employed at Rinkers Building Materials in Frederick.  He was also retired from Eastalco Aluminum Company after 20 years of service. Prior employment included Claire Frock Manufacturing Co. in Thurmont and Frederick Iron and Steel.
Surviving in addition to his wife, are his children: David I. Thomas Jr. and wife Christine of Frederick and Amy June Beall and husband Mat of Westminster; two step-children: Charles Colliflower, Jr. and friend Teresa Divel of Berkeley Springs, WV and Carrie Colliflower of Berkeley Springs, WV; eight grandchildren: Samantha Boyce, William Colliflower, Hannah Lockhart, Bradi Colliflower, Kyra Colliflower, Lakyn Colliflower, Michael Holliday, and his pride and joy, Gavin Beall: one brother: William C. Thomas and wife Joyce of Hagerstown; brother-in-law, Richard T. Gipe of Shippensburg PA; sisters-in-law: Penny Burgee of Frederick and Mary Baker and husband David Wachter of Myersville. He is survived by many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Virginia Gipe.
Friends may call from 3-5 & 7-9 PM on Sunday September 26, at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday September 27, 2010. The Reverend Dr. Paul Mundey will officiate. Interment will follow in HarmonyChurch of the BrethrenCemetery, Myersville.
