David Russell Payne, 84, passed away in his home in Frederick, Maryland on October 9, 2023. He was born on June 18th, 1939, in Washington, DC to the late Dorothy Berwick and John Payne. He was cherished by his family, loved by friends, and will be dearly missed.
Dave was an early adopter of technology, taking a night class in computer programming in 1969 that led to him being promoted from Assistant Warehouse Manager to the head and founder of the new computer department at L&H Sales. He spent the majority of his career in computers, before retiring in 1998 to fulfill his dream of opening Endless Road, an automobile memorabilia shop.
Endless Road was born out of Dave’s lifelong love of cars. Driving was one of his greatest joys, and the only thing better than a road trip, was a road trip with his beloved wife Monica by his side, that ended at a car show or race. When not pursuing his passion for cars, he enjoyed live theater, spending time with his family and was dedicated to volunteering at the Martinsburg food pantry Loaves & Fishes, as well as donating blood and platelets to the American Red Cross.
Dave is survived by his four daughters Christa, Lisa, Kristi and Julie and their husbands, eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild, as well as his brother Don and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Richard and his cherished wife Monica.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held at Surreybrooke Garden in Middletown, MD on October 29th at 1:00pm. In lieu of flowers, Dave requested people donate blood at their local Red Cross. Or memorial donations may be made to the American Red Cross at www.americanredcross.org or the Berkley County CCAP Food Pantry, Loaves & Fishes at ccaploavesandfishes.com.
