Mr. David K. Fluke, 81, of Walkersville, MD, passed away Tuesday, August 30, 2016, surrounded by his devoted family. He was the loving husband of Linda L. (Holmes) Fluke for 51 years.
Born December 4, 1934, in Langdondale, PA, he was the son of the late Carl W. and Dora (Stevens) Fluke. He attended Langdondale Grade School and graduated from Robert P. Smith High School in the Class of 1953. He spoke often of his classmates and very much enjoyed their reunions. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War leaving the service as a staff sergeant. He then attended Shippensburg State College. He was employed with the U.S. Army Materiel Command in Alexandria, VA, for 40 years, retiring in 2000.
On January 16, 1965, he married Linda (Holmes) Fluke of Saxton. In addition to his wife, Linda, he is survived by sons Michael W. Fluke of Walkersville, MD, and Daniel K. Fluke and wife Stephanie, of New Market, MD; four grandchildren: Julia, Nicholas, Evan, and Jack; a sister, Doris (Fluke) Conley of Langdondale, PA, and a lifelong friend, Denton Kanoff, of King of Prussia, PA. He was preceded in death by a son, David Austin Fluke; sisters Leola, Varian, Lorene, and Faithe, and brothers Veryl and George.
David had a passion for music. He played the piano beautifully and could play anything by ear after he heard it. He taught himself to read music. He would never miss a soccer game Mike or Dan was in; following the game wherever it was. Later in life he did the same for his grandchildren. He was also an avid reader and enjoyed going fishing. An imp as a young boy, his sense of humor and vibrant spirit followed him through adulthood and into his later years. He adored his family and was always there for each of us. We will always cherish the wonderful memories he gave us.
He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. November 6, 2016 at the Yellow Creek Church of the Brethren, 4285 Raystown Road, Hopewell, PA.
Memorial donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Stauffer Funeral Home and Stauffer Crematory, Inc. in Frederick. Expressions of sympathy may be offered to the family at www.staufferfuneralhome.com.
