David D. Eigenbrode, 85, of Frederick, passed away on Sunday, October 28, 2018 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. He was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Nancy Eigenbrode. Born on September 27, 1933, in Hagerstown, MD, he was the son of the late Russell A. and Anna E. (Mullendore) Eigenbrode.
David was a graduate of Boonsboro High School where he was a FFA member. He graduated from the University of Maryland with a BS in Agriculture Education and a MS in Extension Education. He served in the US Army at Leavenworth, Kansas.
David was a Frederick County 4-H Agent and a former President and Director of the Frederick County 4-H Camp Center Board. He served as 4-H Supervisor, Regional Extension Director, Acting State 4-H Leader, all for the University of Maryland Extension Office. David managed the ABC Beef Calf Sale, then started and managed the ABC Jackpot Show for nine years. He was appointed by the Governor to serve on Frederick County’s Property Tax Assessment Appeals Board for two terms.
David enjoyed judging flowers and vegetables at the state and local fairs and county shows. He was an avid grower of chrysanthemums, a National Chrysanthemum Society Master Judge, and considered one of the nation’s top growers.
David was an avid Maryland Terrapins fan, enjoyed playing cards, and getting together with family and friends at every opportunity. He and his wife, Nancy, were members of Calvary United Methodist Church where David was also a member of the gospel choir.
Among those surviving David are, a daughter, Karen Moeller (Jim); son, David K. Eigenbrode; granddaughter, Jordan Moeller, sister, Mary Lou Boyer, and brother, Ray Lee Eigenbrode.
A celebration of his life will be observed at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, November 3, 2018 at Calvary United Methodist Church, 131 W. Second St, Frederick.
Interment will be private.
