Daniel S. J. Rohrer, Jr. - Circus Fan, Model Builder and Tuba Player - 78, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at Reeders Memorial Home in Boonsboro, Maryland.
Born on October 21, 1932, in Rohrersville, Maryland, he was the only child of the late Daniel S. J. Rohrer, Sr. and Margaret May (Poffenberger) Rohrer. His wife, C. Joan (Fisher) Rohrer, preceded him in death on March 4, 1998.
Daniel served in the United States Air Force as a medic, based in Texas, during the Korean War and was a graduate of the Hagerstown Junior College and American University in Washington, DC.
Mr. Rohrer was employed with the State of Maryland in Economic and Community Development for over 30 years.
He was a lifetime member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Hagerstown, the Emmett Kelly Tent of the Circus Fans of America for 60 years, and the Circus Model Builders Association. He also played the tuba in the New Horizons Band for several years.
Daniel is survived by his three children, Daniel S. J. Rohrer, III and his wife Vicki of Gerrardstown, West Virginia, Dianne J. Rohrer and her husband Edmundo Ortega of Baltimore, Maryland, and David J. Rohrer and his wife Cori of Hagerstown; his seven grandchildren, Jessica Leonardi, Daniel S. J. (Josiah) Rohrer, IV, Benjamin Rohrer, Sarah Rohrer, Emily Rohrer, Phoebe Rohrer, and Samuel Rohrer; two step grandchildren, Russell and Randall Kesecker; three step great-grandchildren, Samantha, Garett and Reece Kesecker; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Daniel will be especially remembered by his cousin, Julia Howard, and his close friends, Andy Bakner and Caleb Meeks.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro. Rev. Eric A. Norgard will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at Rose Hill Cemetery in Hagerstown.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 19, 2011, from 6 to 8:30 p.m.at the funeral home.
