Daniel Aloysious Sullivan V, known to many as "Little D", 7, of Frederick, Maryland, passed away peacefully in his parents’ arms on Saturday, December 29, 2018 at his home. He fought a long courageous battle against metachromatic leukodystrophy (MLD) since he was diagnosed at age three with this disease that stole his ability to walk, talk and eventually move his body.
Born on August 7, 2011, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of Daniel A. Sullivan IV and Susan (Fialkowski) Sullivan of Frederick. He is survived by his two sisters, Kaylea Alexis Sullivan and Alice Margaret Sullivan., paternal grandmother, Elizabeth Sullivan, maternal grandfather, Joseph Fialkowski and wife Stephanie and maternal grandmother, Kathleen Fialkowski. He will also be remembered by his supporting and loving aunts, uncles and cousins.
He is preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Daniel Aloysious III.
Little D was a fearless boy who loved tractors, trains, dinosaurs, roller coasters, and carnivals. Later in his life when he stayed mostly at home, he enjoyed movies and his father’s rendition of knock-knock jokes. More importantly, he just loved his time with his family.
Once diagnosed in 2014, he and his family was determined to live his short life to its fullest. His aunt Kendra Sullivan created " Little D's Bucket List" and, with an outpouring of love and support from the community, he was able to ride the Canadian Railroad, go on a helicopter ride, ride a fire truck, visit the air traffic control at Philadelphia's airport, play with robots and visit Disney—just to name a few things he was able to experience with the support of friends and family.
The family will receive friends and family on Friday, January 4, 2019 from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm at Stauffer Funeral Homes, 1621 Opossumtown Pike in Frederick, MD. A private funeral will follow on Saturday and the family is planning a public Celebration of Life for Daniel in February.
