Mr. Daniel “Dan” Benjamin Hoffman, Sr., 81 of Mt. Airy, MD., passed away, after a long illness, on Saturday, March 5, 2011 at Montgomery General Hospital. He was the husband of Dorothy “Bernice” Allen Hoffman.
Born May 21, 1929 in Brentwood, MD., he was the son of the late John and Ruth Johnson Hoffman.
Dan served his country in the U.S. Coast Guard and was a volunteer firefighter in Prince George’s County, Brentwood, MD. Mr. Hoffman was a carpenter by trade. He was a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church, the American Legion Post #191 and the Knight of Columbus, Council #10525 of Mt. Airy.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children Robbie Fields Tanner, Douglas Fields and wife Laurel, and Daniel B. Hoffman, Jr., five grandchildren, one great grandchild, daughter-in-law Michelle Richardson and brothers Harold Hoffman, Michael Hoffman and Julius Hoffman. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy, Maryland on Wednesday, March 9, from 2 – 4 and 7 – 9 pm, where services will be held Thursday, March 10, at 11:00 am.
