Daniel “Dan” Robert Martin, 56, of Frederick, Maryland, passed suddenly from this life on Monday, March 17, 2025, at Frederick Health Hospital in Frederick, MD.
Born on May 7, 1968, in Frederick, MD, he was the son of Robert F. Martin and the late Mary (Humberson) Martin.
Dan grew up in Frederick, spending summers at the Clover Hill pool and playing baseball and basketball. He attended TJ High School and graduated from the class of 1986. While there, he loved being a part of the basketball program and helped the team win two consecutive state championships. After high school, he worked in the Frederick area for several years before attending the University of Texas at Dallas where he earned a B.A in Business Administration in 1996. Dan then moved back to the Frederick area and joined Comstock homes, initially as a Community Sales Manager. He later became Vice President of Sales and Marketing as well as the Vice President of Land Acquisitions. Dan and his good friend, Greg Benson, then formed BenMar Residential, working as a Management Consultant and private home builder. During his tenure with BenMar, he also became Vice President of Operations for American Southern Homes. Subsequently, Dan served as Chief Operating Officer of Growth Homes. His various positions took him to North Carolina, Texas, and Alabama where he formed many lifelong friendships. Dan had many interests and hobbies. From a young age, he developed a love for his grandmother’s farm and farmhouse, helping take care of the property while she lived there and then living there himself. He loved spending his day mowing the fields while listening to music. Dan loved all things Jeep related and attended several Jeep Jambories. He loved golf, played with many friends and was always looking to improve his game. Dan also became somewhat of a pool shark over the past 25 years, playing weekly with Pat, a close friend and neighbor. Dan would frequently quote Seinfeld and did a pretty good impression of Dana Carvey doing impressions. He was a lifelong Pittsburgh Steelers fan and was very excited to attend the 2011 Super Bowl in Dallas but was not excited about the outcome. Dan had a passion for history, evolution, anthropology and nature. He frequently talked about shows he watched and things he read on the subjects. He was excited about the opening of the Grand Egyptian Museum at the Pyramids of Giza and was planning to attend despite his discomfort with flying. Dan was a fierce supporter of equal rights for all and was very committed and loyal to those he loved. He was always available to those in need, even people he didn’t know well.
In addition to his father, Dan is survived by his sisters Deb Martin of Hagerstown, MD, and Jen (Martin) Hickman of Leesburg, VA as well as her husband Geoff and Dan’s three beloved nieces Maddie, Elly and Tori Hickman. He leaves behind extended family and many friends. Dan had a positive impact on so many.
