Dana Schrider

Mr. Dana Philip Schrider, 65, of Mt. Airy suffered a massive heart attack at his home on Saturday, August 3, 2013, and passed away in the afternoon at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the best friend and loving, devoted husband of Suzanne Lorraine Schrider, his wife of 35 years. They had no children.
Born June 12, 1948 in Frederick, Dana was the son of Ernest Andrew Schrider and Gladys Grimes Schrider of Berkeley Springs, W.Va. Dana grew up in Woodbine and was a graduate of Mt. Airy High School, Class of 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served his country proudly in Germany and then the Vietnam War, being Honorably Discharged in 1971.
Dana loved watching Nascar racing, The History Channel, Antiques Roadshow, solving Sudoko puzzles, and Celebrity Cipher. In his younger days, he was a league bowler at Mt. Airy Duckpins Lanes. He was devoted to the birds, squirrels, and raccoons that visited his backyard bird feeders. He was completely devoted to the cats that made their home with them, Princess, Hobo and Mira.
In addition to his wife and parents, Dana is survived by his sister, Elaine Susan Spertzel and husband, Charles W.; niece, Heather Gene Spahr; nephew, Charles Nathan Spertzel; great-nieces, Dakota Renee' Spahr and Raelyn Harmony Spahr; as well as his uncles, aunts and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Charles Benjamin and Marguerite Schrider, and Francis and Hazel Grimes.
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd., Mt. Airy. Funeral services will begin at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Aug. 8 from the funeral home with the Rev. Wallace Lusk officiating.
Interment will follow in Lake View Memorial Park, Sykesville.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mt. Airy Volunteer Fire Co., 702 N. Main Street, Mt. Airy, MD 21771.
