Dale Shifler

Dale Robert Shifler, 58, of Hagerstown, Maryland, passed from this life on Friday, January 10, 2014 at his home.

Born on January 30, 1955, in Boonsboro, Maryland, he is the son of James E. Shifler of Boonsboro, and the late Ruth V. (Baker) Shifler, and his wonderful stepmother, Ann Shifler.

Dale was a 1973 graduate from Boonsboro High School.  In 1977, he received his Bachelor's Degree in Music from the Oberlin College and Conservatory in Oberlin, Ohio, and in 1979 he earned is Master's Degree in Music from the New England Conservatory of Music in Boston, Massachusetts.

Dale was well known for his wonderful musical talent and played the organ in many States including Washington, DC where he also taught forty students to play the piano.  Most recently, Dale was the organist at St. Peter's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Clear Spring, Maryland, until just a week ago.

In addition to his parents, Dale is survived by one brother, Wayne S. Shifler of Thailand; several aunts and uncles, and many cousins.  He is also survived by his dear friend who was by his side at his death, Barbara Pittman.

A memorial service will be held in celebration of Dale's life journey at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, January 15, 2014, at the Benevola United Methodist Church, 19925 Benevola Church Road in Boonsboro.  Rev. John H. Dean will officiate.  Following the service, Dale will be laid to rest with his mother in the adjoining church cemetery.
