Dale Grinder

Dale F. “Sparkie” Grinder, 60, of Frederick, Maryland died Friday, June 10, 2011 at Northampton Manor Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of the late Lola Marie Grinder and Cookie Grinder.

Born February 1, 1951, and was the son of the late Marion Frances Bowie and Elbert Francis Grinder of Charles County, Maryland. Dale, or “Sparkie”, as he is lovingly known by his brothers, had a sharp wit, huge sense of humor and an avid sports lover, with an amazing memory. Dale graduated from the Maryland School for the Blind in Baltimore, Maryland. Upon graduation he worked at NIST and retired from Department of Energy (D.O.E.). As a result of Dale’s love of baseball, he coached the D.O.E. slow pitch softball team known as the “Ballers”. Dale was the State Sons Commander of the AMVETS and was an active member at Post 2 Sons of AMVETS in Frederick.

He is survived by his brothers, Gerald Lee Grinder of Charles County, MD; Leo E. Grinder of Deale, MD; George C. Bowie of Charles County, MD; a half brother, Harry X. Johnson of Shenandoah Valley, VA, a sister-in-law, Rebecca Titus and husband Bill their daughter Joy and husband Scott Page of Dickerson, MD, a brother-in-law Arthur Clise, wife Ann son Michael and daughter Mandy of Sabillasville, MD and a step-son Michael Wolfe, and several step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by three brothers and his faithful canine companion, Buffy.

Graveside services will be held at Harmony Church of the Brethren Cemetery, 3939 Brethren Church Road, Myersville, MD., Monday, June 20, at 11:00 a.m. A memorial luncheon will follow at AMVETS Post 9 in Middletown, MD.
