Cynthia "Cindy" Jo Wantz

September 13, 1956 — June 11, 2019

Mrs. Cynthia "Cindy" Jo Wantz (maiden name Fickle), of Jacksonville, Florida, passed away peacefully at Community Hospice of Northeast Florida on June 11, 2019 from Bile Duct Cancer with her daughter Megan and husband Jay by her side. She was born on September 13, 1956 in Valparaiso, Indiana to Donald L. and Joan Goffe Fickle. She leaves behind many loved ones, including her husband Harold "Jay" Wantz, daughter Megan Subryan and husband Nicholas, granddaughter Aubrey, and grandbaby on the way of Ludowici, Georgia; daughter Stephanie Wantz of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; and son Travis Wantz of Thurmont, Maryland. Cindy was preceded in death by father Donald Fickle, stepfather Kenneth Roberts, and sister in laws Wanda Hemler Wantz and Jeanne Wantz Haugh Barkman.

Cindy was a vibrant person. Anyone Cindy met immediately felt as though they had known her for years, with her willingness to do anything for anyone, without hesitation. This was especially true for her close friends and family. Along with her husband and children, Cindy leaves behind her mother Joan Roberts of Westville, Indiana; sisters Vicki Fisel and Tamara Roberts of Hebron, Indiana; and brothers Robert Fickle of LaPorte, Indiana and Steven Fickle of Huntington, Indiana; as well as their families.

Cindy received her bachelor's degree from Valparaiso, Indiana and her master's degree from Purdue Northwest, Indiana. She was a well-known educator who made countless impacts on her student's lives. As a dedicated schoolteacher for 39 years, Cindy taught a multitude of different grades. Throughout her teaching career she was very active in math and science clubs, as well as school politics. She hated snow days!

Passionate was a word used to describe Cindy. She was an active member of the Thurmont Lions Club, a life-long member of the Methodist Church in both Valparaiso, Indiana and then Thurmont, Maryland, as well as being a founding member of the "Christmas in Thurmont" celebration. Along with being involved in her community, Cindy enjoyed traveling the world with her family, rooting for sports teams from Chicago plus the University of Maryland and cooking. She loved to teach her granddaughter Aubrey all her kitchen tricks and passed along many family recipes. Traditions were a very important part of Cynthia's life, a few of the most important being cookies and gingerbread houses at Christmas time and trips to Disney World with her grandbaby at Thanksgiving. These traditions will continue through her family, keeping Cindy's spirit alive for the rest of time. Cindy's love for life will also live on through special friends Janine Krieger, Vicki Howes, and Kristen Michael, as well as many others.
