Cora Bertha (Lucas) Stup, 89, of Middletown, MD left her family and friends on earth on Sunday, January 4, 2015 at Citizens Care and Rehabilitation Center. Born October 2, 1925, in Rockville, MD, she was the daughter of the late George L. and Elizabeth M. (Johnson) Lucas. She was married previously to the late Harold Andrews, and is survived by her current husband Paul L. Stup.
Cora was preceded in death by her siblings Arthur, Donald, and Howard Lucas, and her nephew James Fink. Besides her husband Paul, she is survived by her sister Mildred Fink, sons; Jack O. Andrews and his wife Deanna, and Donald E. Andrews and his wife Katherine, her grandchildren; Michele R. Flynn and her husband James, Shon Andrews, Heather L. Andrews-Gutierrez, and Michael P. Andrews, her great-grandchildren; Kayleigh Flynn, Dakota Gutierrez, Sierra Gutierrez, Killian Gutierrez, Milena Gutierrez, Nico Gutierrez, Seamus Gutierrez, Shilo Andrews, and Ayana Mizrachi (Andrews), and many nieces and nephews.
Cora was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Middletown and also a past member of the Middletown Fire Department Auxiliary for many years. She worked for 37 years and retired from Group Hospitalization, Inc. in Washington DC. and enjoyed her retirement years by traveling and instilling the wanderlust attitude to also travel in her children.
Cora loved the beach and searching for sea shells down by the seashore and also loved their trailer in the hills of Virginia. To her dearest family and friends, she was affectionately known as ‘Flop’, a nickname she was given to as a young girl from her walking among cows and their leavings. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed sewing, canning, jewelry making, and making ceramics, and all kinds of craft making. She loved hummingbirds and their varieties. She was a very wonderful and caring mother, grandmother (Grandma G or Memaw), and great-grandmother and loved her family very much.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 pm on Friday, January 16, 2015 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 North Maple Avenue, Brunswick, MD. A funeral service will be held at 11 am on Saturday, January 17, 2015 at Zion Lutheran Church, 107 West Main Street, Middletown, MD with Pastor Cristopher Frigm will officiate. Interment will follow at St. Luke’s Lutheran Cemetery in Derwood, MD with a reception held back at Zion Lutheran Church at 3 pm.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations in Cora’s name be made to the Middletown Fire Department Auxiliary, Middletown, MD 21769.
