Colonel Donald J. Slezak, 77, of Frederick, Maryland, loving son, husband, uncle, father, and friend to all, passed away on Wednesday morning, December 3, 2014, at Frederick Memorial Hospital in Frederick.
Born on December 13, 1936, in Amsterdam, New York, he was the son of the late Lawrence and Helen (Padowicz) Slezak.
Don attended Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Upon graduation, he went to Siena College in Loudonville, New York, where he received his Bachelors Degree in 1958.
Following his schooling, Don entered into the United State Army, where he valiantly served his country and was proud to be an American. During his career in the Army, Don was stationed in a variety of posts, including Korea, Germany, Alabama, New Jersey, ending in Maryland.
Don worked as an Operations Research Specialist with the Department of the Army, at the Aberdeen Proving Grounds.
Don was a member of St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church in Frederick, Maryland. He was also a member of the American Legion.
He loved being with his family, in which he was extremely proud of.
Don is survived by his loving wife, Elizabeth (Vainauskas) Slezak, whom he married on October, 19, 1958; his daughter, Lucinda Spryn and husband, Gregory, of Williamsburg, Virginia; his brother, Richard Slezak and wife, Susan, of Taneytown, Maryland; and his two grandsons, Mitchell and Harris Spryn. Don is also survived by his brother, Zygmond Slezak of Hagaman, New York.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 6, 2014, at the Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, Maryland 21702. Deacon Mike Currens will officiate. Final resting-place ceremonies will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
