Mr. Clyde McKinley Roney, Jr., 92, of Williamsport, died Monday, October 15, 2018 at Homewood at Williamsport. He was the husband of the late Winifred M. Roney, who predeceased him in 2007.
Born October 3, 1926 in Frederick, he was the son of the late Clyde M. Roney, Sr., and Olga Olsen Roney.
A graduate of Frederick High School, Class of 1943, he was inducted and discharged in the U.S. Navy in January of 1945. He graduated from Washington College in 1951 and then served in the U.S. Army Ordinance Corps Army from 1951 - 1953 and in the Army Reserve until 1957.
He worked in the family business, Roney Motor Co. until 1978 and then as an Insurance Adjuster with Valley Adjustment Co. until his retirement in 1993. Clyde enjoyed part-time retirement work with Creative Colours until 1996. He also enjoyed as a hobby working in stained glass.
Clyde was active in several Kiwanis groups for more than 50 years, where he served in various leadership roles and received many honors for his service. Additionally, he held memberships in the following organizations: FSK American Legion Post #11, Korean Veterans Association, B.P.O.E. Elks Lodge #684, Tri-State Civitan, Bars and Stripes Club - Co. A 7th BTN. MD State Guard, and the 1902 Club with FMH Auxiliary. He was an Emergency Room volunteer at FMH, a charter member of the Catoctones, and assisted in the original establishment of the bloodmobile program in Frederick, where he had donated over 25 gallons of blood.
He was an active life time member of All Saints Episcopal Church, having served 10 years on the Vestry, including one term as Junior Warden. He was also a choir member, usher, chalicist, money counter and member of numerous committees.
He is survived by a daughter, Carolyn R. Roney of Williamsport; son, Paul E. Roney and wife, Faith M. Roney, of Beavercreek, OR; three grandchildren, Sarah E. Roney, Nicole E. Davila and husband, Pete, and Erika J. Rathjen, and husband, Jake; a great-granddaughter, Jayden L. Rathjen; two siblings, Walter L. Roney of Frederick and Jeanne R. Lee of Bluffton, SC; four step-children; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to his wife, he was predeceased by two siblings, Alma R. Whitehouse and Ruth E. Roney.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, October 19, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, October 20 from All Saints Episcopal Church, 106 W. Church Street, Frederick, MD 21701.
Interment will follow in Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
