Clifford W. "Mutt" Shelton, 98, of Walkersville, Maryland, passed from this life on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He was the loving husband of the late Mildred Shelton.
Born on November 6, 1920, in Mount Pleasant, MD, he was the son of the late Harry W. and Clara (Getzendaner) Shelton.
Mutt was drafted to the United States Army during WWII serving under General George S. Patton. He boxed at the age of 17 at local areas in Frederick County and continued his boxing while stationed in Italy. As a result of his boxing accomplishments, he was inducted in to the Alvin G. Quinn Frederick County Sports Hall of Fame.
He retired from Greyhound Bus Lines after 38 years of employment taking with him numerous awards for safe driving. After his retirement years, he kept busy working at the Woodsboro Livestock Auction.
He was a member of the American Legion for 73 years and a lifetime member of the Woodsboro Post 282.
Mutt is survived by his children, Barbara Green and late husband, Bob, of Harpers Ferry, WV, William Shelton and wife, Elaine, of Baltimore, Carol Wilcom and husband, Jerome, of Monrovia and Joseph Shelton and wife, Terrena, of North Carolina; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mildred Grove and Dolly Myers both of Frederick; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Shelton; and a granddaughter, Debbie Sanbower; and two brothers, James and Emory Shelton.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, December 27, 2018 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Avenue in Walkersville.
A celebration of Mutt's life journey will take place at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 28, 2018, at Stauffer Funeral Home in Walkersville. Rev. Gordon Narvesen and Student Pastor Ron Brown will officiate. Interment will be at Utica Cemetery in Utica, MD.
Memorial donations may be made to Woodsboro American Legion Post 282 and the Chapel Lutheran Church, 11109 Daysville Road, Libertytown, MD 21762.
