Clifford Crampton

December 10, 1945 — August 2, 2024

Sharpsburg

Clifford “Buster” Crampton, 78, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, went to be with the Lord on Friday, August 2, 2024.

He was born on December 10, 1945, in Sharpsburg, MD., to the late Jennings Bryan Crampton and Margaret (Otzelberger) Crampton.

Buster retired from Dupont in Falling Waters, WV. And spent all his adult years as a devoted husband and father. He married the love of his life, Nancy Jenkins on January 21, 1967. They were married for 54 years before she passed away in 2021, they made a beautiful life together and had two sons. He was the guiding and steadying force for his family and there was nothing he enjoyed more than providing for and spending time with them.

He loved everything baseball and he enjoyed playing baseball and eventually softball in his adult life. He made countless lifelong friends on the ballfield and often shared the many life lessons he learned from playing the game. He would later coach his sons’ little league baseball team and led them to a championship in his final season as their coach. He loved to watch his granddaughter play fast pitch softball where she honored him by wearing his number 20 and playing third base which was his position. He was a volunteer “assistant” coach for the Boston Red Sox and could often be found guiding them to victory from his living room while sitting in his favorite chair. Recently, he celebrated the eighteenth championship for his beloved Boston Celtics.

He enjoyed duck pin bowling and was most proud of the times spent on the team with his son, Mike, where they just recently completed their season together as league champions. He enjoyed many other activities with his son, Mike, including attending sporting events together and going to the casino where he was as lucky as he was kind. He enjoyed hunting and watching Nascar with his son, Tom. He enjoyed fishing and many other outdoor activities with his grandson, Josh. He enjoyed weekly lunches with his granddaughter, Madison, and other special activities as she was the only girl born into his family. He had a special love for his daughters-in-law, Lorrie and Melissa, as he had no daughters of his own, and they thought of him as their dad in return.

He was an incredibly kind and sweet man who was loved and respected by so many including his buddies from Dupont who still met regularly for lunch to laugh about old times and to make new memories together. Lastly, he was a man of faith, and often reminded others that God is in charge in both the good times and bad. His family and friends will rely on that faith and his example during this time as he will be greatly missed.

Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Mike Crampton and his wife, Lorrie, Tom Crampton and his wife, Melissa; grandson, Josh Crampton and his wife, Heather; granddaughter, Madison Hendershot and her husband, Daniel; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.

The viewing will be held for family and friends on Friday, August 9 from 5 to 7 p.m. at Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike, Boonsboro, MD, and all are welcomed and encouraged to attend.
