Clarence Fenwick "Bud" Smith, 94, of Frederick passed away on April 8, 2024.
Bud was born November 25, 1929 in Frederick to Dr. William Meredith Smith and Ruth Edna Holtz Smith. He graduated from St. John's High School and Mount Saint Mary's University. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War and served 32 years of government services as a microbiologist including Fort Detrick, the Pentagon and the Food and Drug Administration. He was a life member of Saint John's Catholic Church serving as usher and Eucharistic minister for home communicants. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus and the American Legion.
Bud was the husband of the late Mary Russell Hendrickson Smith. He is survived by one son, Philip H. Smith and wife Beth; daughters-in-law Sheila Gallin, Dorothy O. Smith and Cathy Williams (Larry), eight grandchildren; Michael F. Smith (Mindy), Courtney Smith, Stephen W. Smith (Christina), Dorothy S. Ohl (Malcolm), Jeremy Smith (Sara), Peter F.X. Smith (Abby), Amanda Smith, and Matthew Smith; nine great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Louise Talley; and many nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by a special friend Ed Schoder.
He was predeceased by three sons, Ames R. Smith, David M. Smith, and Peter F. Smith; one grandson, John David Smith; sisters Dorothy Clark, Ruth Williams, Helen Muse and Anne Fisher; and a brother William M. Smith Jr.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 21 from 2 to 5 p.m. at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.
A Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, April 22 at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd St., Frederick.
Interment will follow at Mount Olivet Cemetery, 515 S. Market St., Frederick.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 118 E. 2nd Street, Frederick, MD 21701, or a charity of one's choice.
