Clara Louise (Duncan) Kimbro, 84, of Mount Airy, Maryland, formerly of Columbia, Maryland, passed away on June 5, 2018 at Lorien Mount Airy Assisted Living.
Clara was born on November 5, 1933 in Hazleton, Gibson County, Indiana to Roscoe Carter Duncan & Edna Elizabeth (McRoberts) Duncan. She grew up in Gibson County, Indiana and graduated from Mount Olympus High School in 1951. She then went to Deaconess School of Nursing in Evansville, Indiana and received her RN in 1954. She moved to Washington, DC in 1955 and worked as head nurse at George Washington University Medical Center, Orthopedic Intensive Care Unit from 1955 to 1959. She worked as a Public Health Nurse from 1959 to 1961 for the Montgomery County Health Department in Rockville, Maryland. From 1962 to 1963 she had military service as a U.S. Public Health Service Commissioned Officer at N.I.M.H. in Bethesda, Maryland. She earned her B.S. in Public Health Nursing from University of MD in 1963. Then she continued her education and received Masters and Doctoral degrees at the Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health in Baltimore, MD in 1964 & 1967. She was President of the Maryland Nurses Association from 1971 to 1973.
Clara was on the faculty at The Johns Hopkins University School of Hygiene and Public Health from 1976 to 1984. In 1984 she started Health Services Research & Development, Inc. and she invented, patented, developed and marketed The Kimbro Pelvic Lift for patients with mobility problems.
Clara was married to Exall Law Kimbro, Jr. and had two children, Eleanor and David. She is survived by her husband, Exall, her daughter Eleanor Kimbro Pecar with husband Joe and their four children, Chaz, Duncan, Lilly and Gil Pecar and her son, David Duncan Kimbro with wife Marinilka and their two children Jack and Calvin Kimbro.
The family will receive friends from 2-3:30 PM on Sunday, June 24, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 8 E. Ridgeville Blvd, Mt. Airy where services will begin at 3:30 PM with Rev. Paul Warnken officiating.
Interment will take place at a later date in Indiana.
