He was born March 8, 1936 in Cleveland, Ohio to Helene Bereit and William Ralph Lash. He spent his youth in Washington, D.C. and later moved to Savage, Maryland where he graduated from Howard High School.

He was a colorful figure in the Westinghouse labs where he applied his problem solving skills to build components for the Apollo Space program. For more than 30 years, he was a loyal and dedicated volunteer Emergency Medical Technician at Laurel Rescue Squad. He was a Boy Scout leader, avid hunter and fisherman and car enthusiast. His sense of humor and passion for wood working helped him thrive during his long battle with diabetes.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Rebecca (Lowery) Lash, his four children, Helene, Chris, Janet and Metta as well as seven grandchildren and one great grandchild. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
