Christine (Minnie) King Priebe, 84, of Mt. Airy, previously Laytonsville, MD, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 22, 2011, at the Dove House, Westminster, MD.
She was born June 19, 1927, in Albemarle County, Virginia, to the late Thomas M. and Mary M. Moses King. She is survived by two daughters, Gayle Andriani of Walkersville, and Sandra Day of Mt. Airy; by granddaughters Bethany Foster Geiman and husband Todd of Leitersburg, and Amy Foster Morrow and husband Buddy of Frederick and Rock Hall; and by two great grandchildren, Samuel O. and Chloe O. Geiman, Leitersburg.
She was the eldest of 6 children and is survived by sisters Marie Boswell of Mechanicsville, MD, Louise Beavers and husband Tom of Gaithersburg, and Carol Allnutt and husband Tom of Laytonsville. She was predeceased by brothers John King of Monrovia and Lee King of Rockville. She also leaves a brother-in-law Wm. Courtney Priebe and wife Doris of Mt. Pleasant, SC. Christine was a loving aunt to numerous nieces and nephews and their children. She will be remembered especially by Mary Ruth Bogley of Sandy Spring and her "old pal" from school days, Mary Luhn of New Market, as well as many other long time friends from church, club work and the community.
Mrs. Priebe lived most of her life in Maryland and attended schools in Montgomery County. She married Russell Brown Priebe of Unity on September 25, 1943….they were married for 56 years when he passed away in 1998. She was a long-time member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Sunshine, MD, a member for over 70 years of the Olney-Sunshine Homemakers Club, and an associate member of the Women’s Board of Montgomery General Hospital. Mrs. Priebe was a most loving mother, grandmother, and aunt to her family and families of friends, often caring for young children, and always sewing, cooking, decorating, or serving in some capacity with her children for school, church or clubs. She worked for years for the annual picnic and bazaar for the MGH Women’s Board, and exhibited canned and baked goods at the Montgomery County Fair. Many knew her for her wonderful coconut cakes, soft white rolls, and family meals. In recent years she especially enjoyed being a part of the Heritage Circle of Montgomery United Methodist Church, Damascus, MD, and liked to listen to the music of The National Christian Choir on CD’s and radio.
The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 27, 2011, at 10:30 am at Montgomery United Methodist Church, 28235 Kemptown Rd., Damascus, MD, where funeral service will be held at 11:30 am with lunch afterward. After lunch all are invited to join the family at the interment at The Patuxent Cemetery of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church, Sunshine, MD. Pastor Janet Cornelius will conduct the service with Rev. Bud Kibbe assisting. Pallbearers will be nephews, Lawrence Priebe, Ronald Priebe, Kevin Priebe, Douglas Beavers, Kenny Boswell and Michael Boswell. Christine’s family is so appreciative of the wonderful care given by the doctors and nurses at Carroll Hospital Center, Westminster, and the Washington Hospital Center, DC, and especially for the care of everyone at The Dove House, Westminster.
