Charlotte Smith

Mrs. Charlotte Irene Smith, 89, of Frederick died Saturday, October 5, 2013 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the wife of the late Lee H. Smith.

Born March 10, 1924 in Carroll County, she was the daughter of the late Aubrey and Alice Koontz.

Mrs. Smith was Curriculum Specialist for Reading and Intermediate Grades for Frederick County Public Schools, retiring in 1983. She was a member of the National Education Association, Maryland State Teacher Association, Frederick County Retired School Personnel Association, AARP, FMH Auxiliary, and Delta Kappa Gamma. She enjoyed calligraphy and knitting and was a long time member of Linganore United Methodist Church.

She is survived by her brother, John Lowman and wife, Dorothy, of Mt. Airy; two nephews, Tim Lowman and wife, Barbara, and Gary Koontz, and wife, Norma; two nieces, Cathy Naill and husband, Mike, and Cindy Snipes and husband, Bob; great-nieces, Ashley Naill, Kaitlyn Naill, and Britney Lowman; great-nephew, Steven Lowman; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Koontz.

She was predeceased by her sister, Marie Weinhold; and two brothers, Shirley Koontz and Paul Lowman.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesday, October 9 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick, where services will begin at 1 p.m. Officiating will be the Rev. Michael Leftwich.

Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery.
