Mrs. Charlotte Louise Shafer Bowers, 72, of Frederick died Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was the loving wife of Edward Hahn Bowers. They were married for 53 years and 4 months.
Born October 30, 1941 in Frederick, she was the daughter of the late Harry Raymond and Hazel Zimmerman Shafer.
Eddie and Charlotte were life-long dairy farmers at Bow Royal Farm in Frederick, earning numerous agricultural awards over the years. She was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church, Maryland Virginia Milk Producers, Frederick County Farm Bureau, Frederick High School Class of 1959 women's dinner club, and was a former 4-H leader.
She enjoyed gardening, being outdoors, collecting new recipes, cooking, and creating a loving home for her family. Charlotte will be greatly missed.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by four children, Teresa B. Martin of Frederick; Michael E. Bowers and partner, Susan Ay, of New Windsor; Andrea (Andi) M. B. Lewis and husband, Ron, of Thurmont; and Christine E. Bowers of Frederick; her granddaughter, Christiana Grace Martin and her father, Kevin; grandson, Andrew Martin Lewis; a sister, Nellie Easterday and husband, Donald; sister-in-law, Sandra Shafer; two brothers, James Shafer, and John Shafer and wife, Tamyra; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Juanita and Harold Bowers, Mark and Kathy Bowers, and Barbara Bowers; and numerous nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was predeceased by a brother, David Shafer
The family will receive friends from 3 to 5 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 28, 2014 at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike. Funeral services will begin at 2 p.m. on Friday, August 29 from the funeral home chapel with visitation from 1:30 until 2. Officiating will be the Rev. Sarah B. Dorrance.
Interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Cemetery. Serving as pall bearers will be Daniel Shafer, Joseph Shafer, Kenneth Easterday, Thomas Easterday, Justin Shafer, Kevin Martin, and Ron Lewis. Honorary bearers will be Jim Ambrose, Jerry Carey, Alan Heflin, John Bare, Tommy Plunkard, and David McDevitt.
