Well known resident of Frederick Co.
Mr. Charles T. Smallwood Sr. of Petersville, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, September 14 at Frederick Memorial Hospital. He is the husband of Agnes B. Weedon Smallwood, they married on September 29, 1938.
Born May 30, 1915 in Sunnyside MD, he was the son of the late Marshall C. Smallwood and Lillie M. Weedon Smallwood.
Mr. Smallwood retired after 37 years from the B&O Railroad where he worked as a laborer only missing one day. His duties included working in the shop, car yard and roundhouse. He also worked for Judge William Wenner, Lawyer Thomas Claggett, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Litten, Mr. and Mrs. Shoebridge, Mr. and Mrs. Mullens and many more. He was a member of the St. Mary's Catholic Church of Peteresville as well as St. Francis of Assisi in Brunswick, in which he worked for 65 years. Our beloved Father and Grandfather was a hard working man.
Surviving in addition to his wife are son, Charles T. Smallwood Jr. and wife Elaine and son, Joseph M. Smallwood all of Petersville; daughter, Shirley M. Moore and husband John of Round Hill, VA and daughter, Linda L. Fisher of Frederick. He also leaves behind 13 Grandchildren, 21 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great Great-Grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Also survived by brother, Hiram M. Smallwood and wife Ivy of Sacramento, Ca; brother-in-law, Richard Henderson of Brunswick; sister-in-law, Katherine Sappington of Frederick, and brother-in-law, Richard and wife Barbara Weedon of Emmitsburg.
Mr. Smallwood also leaves behind The St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church family; friends, Deacon Lawrence Teixeira and wife, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Baker, Mr. and Mrs. Jones, Mr. and Mrs. Wiles as well as numerous beloved and devoted friends.
Mr. Charles T. Smallwood Sr. also known as the little ole wine maker was very much loved and will be greatly missed.
He was proceeded in death by one daughter, Anna C. Weedon; Great-Grandson, Tyris D. Toms; sister, Evelyn Fletcher; sister, Claira and husband Ralph Scott; sister, Ruth Henderson; brother, Stewart and wife Mammie Smallwood.
Visitation: Mr. Smallwood is at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N. Maple Ave, Brunswick Maryland. The family will receive friends and family from 2 to 9 p.m. Thursday, September 20 at the funeral home.
Services: Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday September 21 at The St. Mary's Catholic Church located on Catholic Church Road in Petersville, Maryland. Deacon Lawrence Teixeira of St. Mary's Catholic Church will officiate.
