Charles Woodrow "Possum" Stottlemyer, 77, of Sharpsburg, Maryland, passed from this life suddenly on Wednesday, September 25, 2013 at Meritus Medical Center in Hagerstown.
Born on February 22, 1936 in Sharpsburg, he was the son of the late Stacey S. and Hattie M. (Butts) Stottlemyer.
Possum attended the Boonsboro Schools. He worked for Picketts Nursery in Woodbine, Maryland and most recently he was as a plumber for Potomac Plumbing Company in Bethesda, Maryland.
He was a member of the Burnside First Church of God in Sharpsburg, and enjoyed farming and raising cows.
He is survived by his wife, Goldie Mae (Rohrer) Stottlemyer; two sons, Vernon C. Stottlemyer and wife Margie of Keedysville, Maryland, and Tony L. Stottlemyer and wife Kelly of Hagerstown; two sisters, Connie Breedon of Ranson, West Virginia, and Liz Harrison of Hagerstown; one brother, Donald Stottlemyer of Sharpsburg; his grandchildren, Brandie "Sue" Kelly and husband Daniel, Ryan Stottlemyer, Zackery Stottlemyer, Sean Stottlemyer and Sara Mae Stottlemyer; step granddaughter, Nina Morrison; and step grandson Robert Guy. He is also survived by his great-grandchild, Logan Kelly.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Rachel Benner Flook; and four brothers, Kenneth, Cletus, Gerald and John Stottlemyer.
A funeral ceremony will be held at 11 a.m on Monday, September 30, 2013, at the Bast-Stauffer Funeral Home, 7606 Old National Pike in Boonsboro. Rev. Ernest E. Witmer will officiate. Final resting place ceremonies will follow at the Boonsboro Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 p.m. on Sunday, September 29, 2013 at the funeral home.
