Charles "Jim" Nunemaker

Mr. Charles “Jim” William Nunemaker, 74, of Thurmont, died Sunday, December 30, 2012 at Frederick Memorial Hospital following a lengthy illness. He was the loving husband of Beverly Fischer Nunemaker.
Born December 16, 1938 in Thurmont, he was the son of the late John Robert and Mary Sweeney Nunemaker.
A 1957 graduate of Thurmont High School, Jim was a lifetime resident of Thurmont. He first worked at Hoke Furniture prior to his nearly 40 years of employment with Moore Business Forms, now known as RR Donnelley.
Following his retirement, Jim worked for Frederick County Public Schools as a bus aide. He loved working with children and this was a job he truly enjoyed, only leaving due to his ill health.
He later would become known as the “produce man”, and sold local produce throughout the Thurmont and Frederick areas. Even as his health declined, Jim continued to sell his produce locally. Jim also would donate produce to the local food bank. He had a heart of gold and was always willing to help someone in need.
Jim was a life member of the Lewistown District Volunteer Fire Company and was a member of Harriet Chapel Catoctin Episcopal Parish.
He will be remembered by many and will be greatly missed.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by six sisters, Betty Shafer of Middletown; Janice W. Powell; Doris Dougherty; Sarah Stambaugh and husband, Sam; Barbara Smith and husband, Leroy; and Patricia Flohr and husband, David, all of Thurmont; one brother, Morris Nunemaker and wife, Mildred; of Detour; sister-in-law, Stella Nunemaker of Thurmont; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, William and Kimberly Whitacre of Rolla, MO.
He also is survived by many nieces and nephews, including his special nephew, Wilton Smith, III. Jim will be remembered by his good friend, Habib Maidanwal.
In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a sister, Virginia Knott of Waynesboro, PA; a brother, James Nunemaker of Thurmont; brothers-in-law, Calvin Shafer, Curtis Powell, Sr., Allen Knott, Sr., and Donald Dougherty, Sr.; and his in-laws, John and Geraldine Fischer.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 9 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 4, 2013 at Stauffer Funeral Homes, P.A., 104 E. Main Street, Thurmont. Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 5 from the funeral home.
Interment will follow in Lewistown Cemetery.
