Charles Hammond Summers

Mr. Charles Hammond Summers, 92 of Jefferson, died on Sunday August 5 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. He was the husband of the late Alice S. E. Cline Summers who died on January 3, 2004, they were married for 67 years.

Born on June 6, 1915 in Frederick County, he was the son of the late Charles Keefer and Minnie McGrew Summers. Mr. Summers was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Jefferson. He was a charter member of the Jefferson Ruritan Club and a member of the Jefferson Fire Co. Mr. Summers farmed with his mother until 1936 and then farmed on his own from 1936 to 1943. He worked for H. C. Summers Co, in Jefferson for 13 years and 18 years for M& M Electric Motor Repair in Frederick, retiring in 1980.

Surviving is a son Charles K. Summers and wife, Evelyn of Knoxville and one daughter, Theresa Thompson and friend John Hutton of Manassas, VA. Three granddaughters, Kimberly Jernigan and husband Jeffrey of Walkersville, Pamela Yee and Linda Dock and husband Adam all of Frederick. One grandson Charles D. Thompson of Seattle, Washington. Eight great-grandchildren: Wesley, Emily, Seth and Rachel Jernigan, Courtney and Mackenzie Yee and Nathan and Kayla Dock. He is also survived by grandson-in-law Jody Yee and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Mr. Summers was preceded in death by tow sisters Ethel Nutter and Dorothea Putman, and son-in-law Marion M. Thompson.



Visitation: Friends may call on Tuesday August 7, 2007 from 2-4 & 7-9pm at the Stauffer Funeral Home, 1621 Opossumtown Pike, Frederick.

Services: Services will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday August 8, at 2:00pm. The Reverend Joseph Lettrich, Interim Pastor of St. Paul Lutheran Church will officiate. Interment will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.

Pallbearers will be Charlie K. Summers, Charles D. Thompson, Jeffrey Jernigan, Jody Yee, Adam Dock, Wesley Jernigan and Michael Summers.

Memorial contributions in Mr. Summers name may be made to the Memorial Fund of St. Paul Lutheran Church, c/o Warren Huffner, Treasurer, P. O. Box 637, Jefferson, MD 21755.
