Charles D. Burrier

June 2, 1916 — May 5, 2007

It is with much sorrow that his family announces the death of Charles D. Burrier on May 5, 2007. Born in Walkersville on June 2, 1916, he was one of 11 children of D. Grayson and Mae C. Ramsburg Burrier. Charles was born in the same house as his father and his grandfather on the farm known as Deerfield, which his great-grandfather had purchased in 1840. Mr. Burrier, a lifelong resident of Walkersville, will be remembered as an active member of his church and community. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel, on April 6, 1998. They were married for 61 years.

Mr. Burrier's career was spent in the foundry and iron casting industry. Before his retirement, he was the B of B&C Utility Co., a company he created. At one time he also was a part owner of the Woodsboro Livestock Sales.

Following retirement, he picked up on a project started in the 1940s, producing and publishing the history of descendants of Leonard and Barbara Burrier from 1730-1988. Under his direction, Glade Cemetery underwent extensive renovations.

Mr. Burrier was one of the organizers and treasurer of the Glade Valley Athletic Association. He was a life member of both Walkersville Fire Company and Walkersville Rescue Company #24. As a member of Glade United Church of Christ, he served in many positions, including financial secretary, consistory president, superintendent of Sunday school, and on various other committees.

Mr. Burrier is survived by two daughters, Mary Louise Wilcom and husband Donald of Ijamsville, and Betty Wright Pue and husband Michael Pue Jr. of Rocky Ridge; grandsons, Michael E. Pue III, James Pue and wife Carol Lynn, Daniel Wilcom and wife Jane; and great-grandchildren, Michael IV, Abigail and Kinsey Pue, and Brett and Maggie Wilcom. Mr. Burrier was preceded in death by a grandson, Gregory Lee Wilcom. He will also be remembered by friends Anna Stup and Margaret Cobb. Mr. Burrier was the last of his immediate family.

The family is most grateful for the loving support of the Assisted Living Staff of Homewood at Crumland Farms.


A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 10, from the Slayman Chapel at Homewood at Crumland Farms, 7407 Willow Rd., Frederick, with the Rev. Beverly Stang officiating.




































Visitation: The family will receive friends at Stauffer Funeral Home, 40 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday, May 8th.

Services: Funeral services will begin at 11 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, at Glade United Church of Christ, 21 Fulton Ave., Walkersville, with the Rev. Dr. Gerald C. Hanberry officiating. Visitation will be he held at the church one hour prior to services. Interment will be in Glade Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Daniel Wilcom, Michael Pue III, James Pue, William Stup, Ken Wisner and Richard Cramer. Honorary bearers will be Trego Zimmerman, Mehrle Ramsburg, James Alexander and Donald Cecil.
